In the beginning of November, I have traveled to LA to participate in a weekend hack. The objective was to learn Lightship VPS and to build something over the weekend in a team.
I had a partner, Ryan, who helped creating all of the 3D assets needed for this game. I had a lot of ideas, but when it was time to build it, there were numerous obstacles. Thankfully, there’s a team of Niantic staff who provided all the support I needed to complete this very small game.
Major take away from this was:
1. Remote Authoring – learned how to place virtual objects in Unity without needing to go to location.
2. Ray casting touch to see what “hit”. Basically, detecting what objects I tapped, was it cheese? or something not interact-able?
The best part is winning the grand prize in this challenge! Some prize money and Circuit Stream XR course, which is something I looked into previously but didn’t have the budget for. Now I got the course and have started in December. I’m so excited to keep learning this and try to develop for VR/MR with Oculus. That will be my focus after the VPS challenge.
